Dr. Rollan Wong has been performing root canal treatments for over 20 years.
When infection from tooth decay reaches the nerve of your tooth, root canal treatment (or endodontic treatment) can remove the infection and save the tooth so it does not have to be extracted. Bacteria can enter the root canal of your teeth through cavities and cracks. This can cause pain and swelling to the patient and if left untreated, the infection can spread into your blood stream causing serious health problems.

Tooth restoration after root canal treatment
After performing a root canal treatment, the damaged tooth still needs to be restored to prevent further decay. For larger teeth used for chewing, Dr. Rollan Wong will suggest a crown to withstand the constant force of chewing.

Continue to care for your teeth and gums as you normally would, and be sure to keep up your regular cleaning appointments so we can sooner detect tooth decay or other oral conditions.
Root Canal Retreatment
In rare cases, a second root canal treatment may be required if bacteria persists in the pulp tissues. This is called a retreatment. Only your dentist can determine whether this is necessary.
